Automotive design always raises the question of how to improve the driving experience.

In the past, to switch a radio, for example, you had to take your hand off the steering wheel and reach for the switch. This took the driver's attention from the road to finding the right button, delayed recognition of dangerous circumstances and led to accidents.

To reduce the likelihood of accidents occurring, it was suggested that some of the buttons for controlling the car's instrumentation be moved to the steering wheel. Nowadays, the multifunction steering wheel, also known as the multifunction steering wheel, is widely used in sports cars, lorries and passenger cars.

Multifunction steering wheels are now widely used in both sports and passenger cars.

Audio system, navigation system and telephone system

The steering wheel mounted audio controls are offered as volume control, search, radio station switching.

Today, the multirodle is available in 2 versions:

  • «Audio/CPC» – the auto steering wheel has buttons for remote control of radio equipment and speed control system.
  • «Audio/CPC/Telephone» – in addition to the above two functions, there is the option to control the telephone system.

Practice shows that the phone control function is the most demanded among drivers. You can use the steering wheel to call up the phone menu, search the phone book, switch the phone on/off and answer incoming calls.

If your car has a navigation system, some of its controls are also on the steering wheel.

Board computer

Some cars are already equipped with on-board computers, which provide information to drivers in the form of the following route parameters:

Some cars are already equipped with on-board computers, which provide information to drivers in the form of the following route parameters.

  • travelling time;
  • average and current fuel consumption;
  • capacity and average speed;
  • mileage (from the moment the ignition is switched on).

For quick retrieval of such information, the computer (on-board) control buttons are also displayed on the multirole. With the help of these buttons you can navigate through the menu, close and open the necessary applications. The on-board computer can also provide information on when the next service is due and warn you when you're exceeding the speed limit.

Voice Control System

Voice control provides auto control of many car functions using voice commands, which are subsequently converted into signals and transmitted to specific vehicle systems. The use of such a system ensures driving safety and comfort. Voice control systems can have different numbers of supported languages and the number of control functions that can be realised.

Voice control can be used to control your phone, navigation system and multimedia system. Voice control of the phone provides access to the phone contact list by name or phone number, and allows you to enter text messages to be sent using your voice. To realise these functions, the phone must be connected to the multimedia system via Bluetooth or USB cable.

After a voice command has been entered, the microsystem gives a special signal to confirm that it has been understood. Sometimes these systems include feedback that simulates a natural dialogue with the driver.

Improving and equipping the steering wheel with the above-mentioned buttons for controlling various systems provides a multifunctional steering wheel and, in most cases, comfort as well as safety on the road.
