The repair of the electric steering rack – one of the most complex processes, it requires high professionalism of the master and the availability of equipment for diagnostics and repair. Repairing the steering mechanism involves: diagnosing the rack and assessing the suitability of its main parts. After the rack is disassembled, worn parts and elements are replaced with new ones.

  • It is important to know that preparation of the rack for repair always includes washing and sandblasting of surfaces.
  • Reconditioning requires disassembly of the rack and defect analysis of its parts in order to correctly assess the nature and severity of the damage.
  • After the defects are carried out removal of workings and traces of rust, which appear due to damaged dust covers or loose clamps on the steering rods.
  • If necessary, the main and worm shaft is straightened. When there is a stalling effect in one of the sides, the boring of the rack housing and its liner is carried out.
  • At the same time, it is necessary to bore the main and worm shaft.
  • The already worn parts of the rack are changed: housing, bushings, shaft, bearings, oil seals, sealing rings.

After the restoration is complete, the electric rack is reassembled using special equipment. The rack undergoes a diagnostic test to simulate actual operation on the car.

Use of the MS561 EPS controller

Great diagnostics and quality repairs are guaranteed by the use of special MSG Equipment. The EPS controller MS561 is needed to test the performance of electric rack, column and electro-hydraulic power steering pumps.

A non-functioning rack is connected to the MS561. If the rack does not turn on, the control box is opened and from experience with other electric rack repairs, typical problems can be identified: moisture and physical damage, contact group problems, power or sensor problems, sensor failure.

The MS561 can be connected to the MS561.

Look for changes in errors and identify the problem node. Then focus on fixing the problem and check the rack using the EPS controller.

Remember, getting your steering rack rebuilt on time will help you avoid repairing the steering wheel and the entire steering mechanism.
