Occupational characteristics: motor mechanic and master transmission mechanic
Motorist in a car service centre is a highly specialised technician who deals with the maintenance, repair and diagnosis of internal combustion engines. The term is often applied to piston engine service specialists. There is an even narrower specialisation of this profession — a specialist of engine units.

Duties of a motor mechanic
Motor overhaul. A series of technological operations including, in addition to block boring and crankshaft grinding, washing of all parts and the motor, cylinder treatment, crankshaft and connecting rods inspection, cleaning of oil passages, inspection and adjustment of fuel equipment, repair of water and oil pump.
Motorist performs motor ring and crankshaft liner changes, valve packing changes, camshaft camshaft changes, hydrocompensator changes, valve clearance adjustments.
Diagnostics of engines of passenger cars and trucks. Visual inspection, checking the noise and power of the motor, diagnostics of the system: cooling, lubrication, starting, exhausts, engine suspension, cylinder piston group, the system of filling with air, gas distribution drive. If there are questions about the increase in fuel consumption, the motorist checks all the main characteristics of the motor, conducts a diagnosis of fuel consumption.
Assembly and installation of the engine after repair. After repair work, the engine is put in place, the motorist is engaged in its assembly and installation, idling.
Diesel motorist
The diesel motorist is responsible for the repair, diagnosis of all systems and maintenance of diesel cars. The duties of a diesel engine specialist include: overhaul of diesel engines, restoration of engine block heads, change of belts and repair of the timing system, repair of diesel engine blocks, change of pistons, rings, crankshafts, liners, restoration of engine cylinders, repair work of fuel systems and injectors.

The master transmission technician must know all the basic elements in the transmission and understand the principles of operation of this mechanism.
Transmission repair work: fixing the half axle, driveshaft, changing the ball joints, rebuilding the clutch, cable, clutch drive, differential replacement, repairing the gearbox.
The duties of a transmission repairman include:
- Diagnostic check of systems and analysis of faults;
- Dismantling defective parts;
- Disassembly of machine components, with sub-assembly diagnostics
- Defect diagnosis, identification of broken elements;
- Assembly of the machine after replacement of necessary parts;
- Mounting of the transmission
The profession of a motor mechanic is a demanding one, as one has to deal with the motor of a car, which is of complex construction and the cost of which is quite high. But the specialist, who has mastered this profession, will never be out of work, and therefore will have a constant high income.
